Anyone witnessing or that has been a victim of a crime should report the activity immediately and accurately. Even a delay of five minutes could “significantly reduce the chance of catching a criminal.” When reporting a crime, be prepared to give detailed information, such as:
- Your name and address
- An explanation of what happened
- When it occurred
- Where it occurred
- Is anyone hurt?
- A brief description of the suspect
- Vehicle license
- Suspect’s direction of travel
SCPD want people to remember burglaries are crimes of opportunity;
take precautions to decrease chances and be a good neighbor by watching out for each other.
