Vallejo police have identified a teenager who was fatally shot by
officers after an armed robbery Saturday morning as 17-year-old Jared Huey.
Huey, a Vallejo resident, allegedly robbed the Beer Bait &
Convenience store at 829 Wilson Ave. at gunpoint around 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. Jeff Bassett said.
He then fled north on Wilson Avenue in a white Jeep Cherokee that
had been reported stolen in Concord, Lt. Jim O'Connell said.
The car was spotted by Solano County sheriff's deputies around
9:45 a.m. near Lemon Street and Sonoma Boulevard.
Police pursued it to Lemon and Sheridan streets, where it crashed
into a fire hydrant and went through a fence and into the front yard of a
home, Vallejo Fire Capt. Dan Sarna said.
The driver then fled on foot. At least one resident reported that he was carrying a handgun as he ran, O'Connell said.
Officers located him in the yard of 609 Sheridan St. and ordered
him to show his hands, but instead he allegedly refused and pointed a handgun at officers, O'Connell said.
They fired their guns, striking Huey multiple times. Huey died at
the scene. No police officers were injured.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave,
and the Solano County District Attorney's Office and Vallejo police are
investigating the incident, O'Connell said.
