Toddler Drowns in Family Pool

A 2-year-old Fairfield boy drowned Tuesday morning in his family's swimming pool.

A 2-year-old boy drowned in his family's swimming pool on Tuesday morning, a Fairfield police lieutenant said.

The boy's 12-year-old sister found him unresponsive in the pool at a home in the 2100 block of Clipper Ship Drive around 9:15 a.m., Lt. Greg Hurlbut said.

There was a fence around the pool, but the gate was damaged and was removed over the weekend, Hurlbut said.

A great-grandparent was caring for the boy while his parents were working, Hurlbut said.

"They thought the boy was still asleep, but the child woke up and got out of the house," Hurlbut said.
