A 16-year-old girl was arrested in Fairfield this morning on suspicion of burgling a home on Fairfield Avenue, a police sergeant said.

A neighbor called police around 9:30 a.m. to report a person hopped over a fence at a residence in the 1800 block of Fairfield Avenue, Sgt. Randy Boggs said.

The neighbor knew the resident of the home was away, Boggs said.

Police officers discovered a broken window in the home and a police dog found a female hiding under a bed on the second floor of the house.

The teen suspect was truant from Armijo High School at the time of the residential burglary, and officers found jewelry in her handbag, Boggs said.

When the residents returned home, they identified the jewelry as their property, and the teen was booked into juvenile hall for residential burglary, Boggs said.

Boggs said the swift action of the neighbor led to the arrest and recovery of the stolen property.
