One person was hospitalized and a mobile home badly damaged in a two-alarm fire in Fairfield Sunday afternoon, according to a fire official.

A mobile home on the 100 block of Northridge Court, part of the Country Club Estates, was already heavily involved with flames and a second mobile home beginning to catch fire when firefighters arrived on the scene around 3:30 p.m., Battalion Chief Matt Luckenbach said.

Firefighters were able to "knock down" the fire inside the double-wide trailer quickly, but took longer to extinguish it in the crawl space underneath, Luckenbach said. Strong winds also slowed their efforts.

The resident in the trailer that caught fire was able to escape uninjured, but another resident who went inside to search for others suffered from smoke inhalation.

She is expected to recover, Luckenbach said. Smoking materials discarded in a garbage can outside the trailer are thought to have started the fire, Luckenbach said.

Damage is estimated at around $100,000 and the resident is likely to be displaced for three to four weeks, Luckenbach said.
