UPDATE: Unlicensed Teen Driver Severely Injured, Younger Passenger Dead

Accident update on tragic solo car accident on Fry Rd. at Clark Rd. Thursday afternoon.

A teenage boy from Solano County was killed in a crash near Dixon late this morning, a California Highway Patrol sergeant said.

Two teenage boys were in a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer on Fry Road near Clark Road in unincorporated Vacaville when they crashed into a pole and drove into a field around 11:30 a.m., CHP Sgt. Chris Linehan said.

The driver -- a 15- or 16-year-old boy without a driver's license -- was apparently speeding on the road that has a 55 mph speed limit when the car went off the road and collided with a power pole, according to Linehan.

The car was launched into the air and went over a dirt creek canal, at least 20 feet wide and 20 feet deep, and landed more than 100 feet away in a field after rolling several times, Linehan said.

The driver was taken to the hospital with major injuries, while a 14- or 15-year-old boy in the front passenger seat was pronounced dead at the scene, Linehan said.

His name has not been released pending notification of his family members, Linehan said.

Linehan said both boys were wearing seatbelts and no other cars were on the two-lane count road during the crash.

He said speed appears to be the cause of the crash, and drugs and alcohol are not believed to be involved.

The base of the power pole was sheared off in the crash, and PG&E sent crews to repair the equipment. There was no impact to service because of the incident, Linehan said.
