Vallejo Teen Sentenced To Life For Attempted Murder Of Woman

Peter Montenegro, 17, was sentenced to life for shooting ice cream vendor

A Vallejo teen was sentenced to 17 years to life in prison on Monday for shooting an ice cream vendor in the chest during an attempted robbery
last year.

Peter Montenegro, 17, was sentenced to 7 years to life for attempted murder and 10 years for personal use of a firearm, Solano County District Attorney Donald du Bain said.

He pleaded guilty to the attempted murder with a gun of Amarjit Kaur as she sat in her ice cream truck on Springs Road in Vallejo on Feb. 3, 2010.

A video of Montenegro, a Hogan High School freshman, walking through a hot dog restaurant after the shooting led to his arrest a week later in Oakland.

Montenegro's co-defendant, Joseph John Beverly, who was 14 at the
time, pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and will be sentenced Dec. 16. Both teens were prosecuted as adults.

Montenegro must serve 17 years in prison before he is eligible for
parole, du Bain said.

The sentence was part of a negotiated plea and is a fair disposition to a tragic event for all involved, du Bain said.
