Crowds Crowd City Hall For Swearing in

Mayor Pete Sanchez was clearly the star of the night

Scores of supporters of Mayor Pete Sanchez, City Councilwoman Jane Day and Councilman Mike Hudson packed the council chambers and overflowed into the lobby of City Hall Tuesday night to watch the three incumbents sworn in.

But clearly, it was Sanchez's room as dozens of cameras flashed when he took the oath of office, then presented his plaque to his mother.

Assemblywoman Mariko Yamada administered the oath of office to longtime councilwoman Day, the city clerk swore in Sanchez and Sanchez administered the oath of office to Hudson.

All three said it was a difficult campaign.

"This was a hard campaign," Day said as she thanked her supporters. "This was not an easy campaign."

Sanchez read a letter he sent to local media thanking his supporters, joking that he needed to raise $16,000 to win because his good looks weren't enough this time around.

The lobby of City Hall looked more like a buffet restaurant as supporters ate various kinds of homemade food provided by volunteers.
