What could be fixed to make Fairfield a better place to live? What about Suisun City?

A local non-profit aims to answer those questions by leaning on the community for suggestions. The Twitter handle @FixFairfield invites locals to tweet "constructive suggestions" for what needs to be fixed to make the Fairfield area a better hometown.

"We live in a nice city but we also have neighborhood crime, unemployment and traffic jams," says the group's website. "Fairfield can be improved. I have a plan for doing that and the experience of other cities shows that it will work with the support and involvement of more citizens."

The group obviously focuses specifically on the city of Fairfield, but any positive effects on our neighbor would have major ramifications on the quality of life in Suiusn City. Not only are the cities situated alongside one another, but they also share a school district and a high school, among other things.

Unemployment and crime go together. Attracting businesses to Fairfield means more jobs. More jobs means less crime. When more people work locally traffic is improved because fewer have to commute to jobs elsewhere. People living and working locally patronize local stores. This broadens the city's tax base, providing funding for better police and fire protection WITHOUT RAISING TAXES.

As owner and manager of California Business Center on West Texas St., I have long been involved in inducing new small businesses and branch offices of larger ones to relocate to Fairfield. It can be done. Working together we can "Fix Fairfield".
