Last Minute Deal: Elementary Schools Off Table?

In a sixth school closure option, the district anticipates breaks from employee concessions will save elementary schools from closure.

In a surprise move Thursday, the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District released a sixth school closure option as school officials prepared to sit down at 4 p.m. to talk about the matter before a vote later tonight at 6 p.m.

The sixth option would save elementary schools from closure, but close Sullivan Middle School and take additional cuts to adult education and district management employees. It's appearance suggests concessions were wrought from district employees and management conceded some as well.

The closure of Sullivan -- according to the option attached as a PDF at right -- would transfer all 6th grade students back to elementary schools, and the bulk of all 7th and 8th graders to Grange Middle School.
