Looking Ahead For 2012

Patch looks ahead to some of the major events coming up in 2012.

2011 was a year of uncertainty in the government realm, with the city budget yet to be finally decided until the state Supreme Court decideds the merits of Gov. Jerry Brown's efforst to end redevelopment agencies across the state.

Until then, the city doesn't really know how much money it will have to fund waterfront events like Christmas at the Waterfront and the 4th of July.

Another big uncertainty in 2012 is when the Walmart Supercenter will be built in Suisun City. At last check, the supercenter was tied up trying to meet water board demands it restore a piece of wetland to make up for paving over a drainage area that Walmart opponents call a wetland and the city calls a ditch. Look for 2012 to provide a more definitive answer as to whether and when Walmart will be able to set up shop in town.

Finally, the Salvation Army Kroc Center spent 2011 getting approvals for constrcution and then beginning construction on the Kroc Center, which recently erected the bones for the auditorium after paving the parking lot.

Salvation Army Capt. Jonathan Harvey is confident the Kroc Center will open this spring, and by the looks of things it's well on its way.
