Congressman John Garamendi (D-Fairfield) was joined by over 100 local supporters for the grand opening of the Solano County Democratic Party and Garamendi for Congress Campaign Headquarters.
The Headquarters was packed with community leaders eager to ensure that Solano County is represented in Congress by someone dedicated to protecting Social Security and Medicare, investing in education, creating good jobs here in America, honoring our troops, and defending the Delta.
“The choice has never been so clear,” “The Romney/Ryan Republican budget which my opponent supports is a budget that would terminate Medicare in the next 20 years, instate a 30 to 40 percent reduction in MediCal – 60 to 70 percent of which goes to nursing homes and the rest goes to young children, and explodes the deficit by giving extraordinary tax cuts to the extraordinarily wealthy. This is the most heartless proposal I’ve seen since I’ve been involved in governing.”
“Moving ahead, this is a fight for the soul of our country,” stressed Fairfield Vice Mayor Rick Vaccaro. “We really need to stand behind the people that we’re going to vote for and convince our friends and neighbors to vote for them as well. So let’s get out there and campaign for John.”
In addition to welcoming Congressman Garamendi’s opposition to the right-wing Romney/Ryan budget, supporters spoke about Garamendi’s commitment to the jobs and the Delta.
“When Altec was thinking about moving out of Dixon, John and I went to Altec and he talked to the management,” Jr. “Long story short, Altec stayed in Dixon, expanded their operations and brought over 100 new jobs to the city. That’s the kind of representative we need back in Congress.
“John is a warrior on the Delta,” said California State Senator Lois Wolk. “He lives there, he knows it, and he represents it. And with John in Congress there won’t be end runs around the state on water issues and in particular the Delta.”
The Solano Democratic Party and Garamendi for Congress Campaign Headquarters, located at 2500 North Texas St., Suite A in Fairfield, will be used to host phone banks and canvasses for the Garamendi campaign and other local Democratic Party supported races. After the event, supporters stayed to make phone calls to voters in Fairfield and Vacaville in support of Garamendi.
Congressman Garamendi is running in the new 3rd Congressional District which includes all or portions of Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Sacramento, Solano, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba Counties. After receiving 53% of the vote in the June 5th primary, Garamendi has advanced to the general election which will take place on November 6th, 2012.
