Registrar Recommends You Turn In Mail Ballots Early

The Registrar of Voters is encouraging the more than 110,000 citizens with vote-by-mail ballots in their homes to turn them in early.

Vote-by-mail ballots can be returned through the close of the polls at 8 p.m. on June 5; however, the tally of vote-by-mail ballots received after June 4 could be delayed until later in the week due to the ballot verification process.

“We all want to know the election results on Tuesday night. Turning in the vote-by-mail ballots early will help make that possible,” said John Gardner, Deputy Registrar of Voters.

Approximately 55% of registered voters in Solano County are registered as permanent vote-by-mail voters. About 20,000 voters had returned their ballots as of Thursday, May 24.

“One of the advantages of vote-by-mail ballots is voters can weigh their choices and cast their ballot from the comfort of the homes at times convenient to them.  If they turn in their ballots early, they can speed up the reporting of election results on election night,” Gardner said.

Tuesday, May 29, is the last day for registered voters to request a vote-by-mail ballot to be mailed to their residence. Forms are available www.solanocounty.com/elections, on the sample ballot, and at the Registrar’s office on the second floor of the County Administration Center, 675 Texas St. in Fairfield.

Wednesday, May 30, is the last recommended day to mail vote-by-mail ballots to ensure they arrive at the Registrar of Voters office prior to Election Day. Vote-by-mail ballots may be dropped off at any polling location – a list of all polling locations can be found on the County’s web site www.solanocounty.com/elections (look for information on the June 5th Presidential Primary).

Voters going to the polls to cast their choices are encouraged to complete their sample ballots in advance to avoid delays at the polls. They should also review the address of the polling place listed on the back of the sample ballot. Many polling locations have changed since the last election. Voters can also look up the location of their polling place on the County website.

The Secretary of State has mailed the state Voter Information Guide containing the text and arguments on state ballot propositions. Copies are available for pickup at the Registrar of Voters Office on the second floor of the County Administration Center, 675 Texas Street in Fairfield. The guides are also available online at www.voterguide.sos.ca.gov.

The ROV Office also has copies of the Easy Voter Guide, a simplified guide to state candidates and ballot propositions produced by the Secretary of State and the League of Women Voters.  It is available online at http://www.easyvoterguide.org/
