Rockville Hills Parking Lot to Be Closed

The lot will close temporarily, but the park will remain open.

Information from City of Fairfield:

The parking lot at Rockville Park will be closed for the day on Thursday, May 31, 2012 for the installation of the first of two power poles that will serve a new payment machine. The park will remain open during the work, however there will be limited parking available on the shoulder of Rockville Road.

The first phase of the work, scheduled to take place on Thursday, will involve an electrical contractor installing a power pole in the parking lot. Public Works Supervisor Kathie Norris stated that the existing solar-powered payment machine is an older model for which replacement parts are no longer available. The new machine is expected to speed transaction processing and be more user-friendly.

The next phase of the project will involve PG&E setting a second power pole to complete the electrical connection to the park. Bringing electricity into the park is expected to accommodate future parking lot security lighting.

The City charges $3 for an individual day pass to access Rockville Park. Discounted 6-month passes are available. The Park Ranger has the authority to issue citations to visitors without a valid pass. All fees collected are used to support the park.
