SACRAMENTO—Senator Lois Wolk (D-Davis) announced today that she will open a new district office in the City of Vallejo on March 1. The Vallejo office, which will be located on Mare Island, will be staffed by lifelong Vallejo resident Mel Orpilla, who will work to provide constituents assistance with state departments, legislative affairs, and other state issues.

“This new office will expand access to the valuable services my staff can offer constituents,” said Wolk. “Mel will do a wonderful job given his wealth of experience working with this community.”

“As a native of Vallejo and Solano County, I know this community. Diversity is one of our greatest assets. This is a wonderful place to live and raise a family,” said Orpilla, who is active in local politics, the Filipino community, and local youth groups. “This is a new opportunity for me to serve my community. I am looking forward to working with Senator Wolk and to serving her constituents in Vallejo and beyond.”

Orpilla worked most recently as a public affairs officer for Kaiser Permanente. He has also worked as a youth mentor with groups including Youth Partnership, an initiative of Vallejo’s Fighting Back Partnership that aims to promote civic engagement in Vallejo youth—and the Pilipino Youth Coalition Vallejo, which works to connect Filipino student organizations at local schools in the Greater Napa-Solano County area.

Orpilla also teaches the ancient Filipino fighting art of Balintawak Arnis, gives lectures and presentations on Filipino American history, and is the author of “Filipinos in Vallejo,” a book on Filipinos history and contributions in Vallejo.

Wolk’s Vallejo district staff will share an office space with Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-5) so constituents can get help with both state and federal issues at the same time. Beginning March 1, constituents can contact Wolk’s Vallejo district office at (707) 551-2389. Constituents in need of assistance before March 1 can call Senator Wolk’s Vacaville office at (707) 454-3808. For more information, visit Wolk’s website at http://sd03.senate.ca.gov/.
