Solano Meals on Wheels Could Lose $18K to Sequester Cuts

Within a month, thousands of seniors from Dixon to Vallejo could be without Meals on Wheels service as a result of sequester cuts.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, "If it doesn’t (cover the funding gap), it could mean that it could serve 5,500 fewer meals a month to homebound seniors from Vallejo to Dixon. The organization, which prepares its own meals in Suisun City, serves 650 meals a day."

In a mailing about the passage of a farm bill, Garamendi referenced Meals on Wheels Thursday:

“In this Congress, when push comes to shove, it’s the voiceless that get shoved the most. We’re seeing that in the sequester with the immediate harm befalling Head Start, Meals-on-Wheels, and housing assistance, and we’re now seeing it with steep cuts to SNAP in the Farm Bill..."
