Suisun Hoping To Get Bike Path Grants

The city is looking to extend and improve McCoy Creek Trail

The Suisun City Council unanimously authorized city staff to apply for a series of grants to upgrade, extend and study bike paths through the city Tuesday.

One grant would extend the McCoy Creek Trail bike path from Pintail Drive to Blossom Avenue, lengthening that path by 0.77 miles. The city would be able to apply for grant money to pay for 90 percent of the $900,000 cost of the project.

In another grant application, the city is hoping to get between $7,000 and $25,000 from a community benefit grant launched by Kaiser Permanente to add four or five recreational exercise stations along the McCoy Creek trail.

A third grant application requests $48,000 for a feasibility study for bicycles, pedestrians and other traffic on Lotz Way between Marina Blvd. and Main Street.

According to a city staff report, there are concerns about pedestrian and bicyclist safety around the train station.

City Councilwoman Jane Day pointed out at Tuesday’s meeting that the council was merely approving the grant application.
