The salad served up by the Board of Supervisors can also help Solano County win the Big Apple trophy back from Contra Costa County in the annual Counties Care Food Fight Challenge.  In the nine years of the challenge, Solano County has won the trophy three times.  Collectively, the employees have raised nearly $700,000.

“The Board’s goal is foremost to feed families in need and secondarily to bring the Food Fight Trophy back to Solano County,” said Supervisor Linda Seifert, chair of the Board of Supervisors.

The supervisors will be serving chicken Caesar salads to employees and the community on Monday, Dec. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the CAC Café on the first floor of the County Administration Center, 675 Texas St. in Fairfield.  The supervisors will also be delivering the salads to employees in the building and at the Health and Services campus on Beck Avenue in Fairfield.

Suggested donation for the chicken Caesar salad is $12.  The supervisors are prepared to serve 125 salads to raise at least $1,500.

“There will also be giant tip jar for everyone to share their good fortune with those in need,” Supervisor Seifert said.

Since the Food Fight began in late November Solano County employees have tempted their colleagues with a variety of tastes to raise money for the Food Bank, including cookies, brownies, cheesecake, pies, candies, chili and nachos.

The Counties Care Food Fight Challenge began in 2004 when Contra Costa challenged Solano County after starting the employee fund drive to raise funds for the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano County a year earlier.  Solano County earned the bragging rights of the Big Apple trophy in 2005, 2008 and 2010.  Along with community support of the Food Fight, the two counties have raised $927,805 for the Food Bank.

All funds raised in Solano County are used by the Food Bank to help needy families in Solano County.
