The Leaven To Open Suisun Tutoring Center in September

Dignitaries, including Congressman John Garamendi, set to attend kickoff event.

The Leaven is extending its helping hand to Suisun, as it prepares to open its sixth after-school tutoring center - the first in Suisun - this September.

The nonprofit group, run by the Parkway Community Church, will be celebrating the Suisun opening with local dignitaries on Sept. 17 in a small celebration at Mike Day Memorial Park.

“We always look where there is a need,” said Mark Lillis, Executive Director of the Leave. “There was a real need at the Village Apartments. We like to be able to find solutions to helping children, they had a spot.”

The center is Leaven’s sixth after opening it’s first at Parkway on the corner of Heath Drive and Air Base Parkway in Fairfield in 2005. There are three other locations in Fairfield and one more in Southern California.

“It’s an entirely free program for students that live in the apartment complex or for people that live out a mile from the target,” Lillis said.

The Leaven is funded through grants and fundraisers. The organization held a golf tournament and charity race earlier this year and will hold a wine and cheese event in October.
