Damaged Marsh Scene Sculpture Waits For A Complex Fix

The sculpture, created by Suisun Valley sculptor Phillip Glashoff, was damaged by an errant car.

It was never intended to look like abstract art, but that's just what an errant vehicle made the marsh scene sculpture look like on Walters Road near the intersection with Highway 12.

The collision occurred a couple months ago, but as Public Works Director Dan Kasperson said, the fix is a little more complex than a downed streetlight.

The good news is, the city has the insurance information for the vehicle that collided with the sculpture. The bad news?

"We have to go back to the original artist for repair work," Kasperson said.

Depending on Phillip Glashoff's schedule and availability, that may take some time.

In the meantiume, can you name where other Glashoff scultpures are in the city?

There's more cat tails somewhere. Don't remember exact location. He did a cross in front of the Presbyterian church off Rockville and Suisun valley. Glad you guys reported on this and that the driver's.insurance will cover the fix! I'd be curious to know the final repair total.

Bethany, I'm curious about the final numbers, too. They haven't worked it out yet, but I'm real sure it won't be cheap!

Probably my favorite of his in all the city, except for the new ones at Lawler House.

Ronnie, I second your sentiments. We really do have some nice things in Suisun. We are original, beautiful, and a gem! Keep an eye out for some more art coming our way- Mission Solano’s Earth Day on 4-21-12 at the Suisun City Waterfront, the garbage that will be cleaned up from our City on that day will be made into a beautiful piece of art and donated to our city. How awesome is that? This venture is one of a kind as no other city has done this. We are unique! Wonderful!

I am happy to see that others want this fixed! I drive by it everyday and it makes me sad. Hopefully the artist and the City can work something out and get it fixed soon.

It is a shame that this sculpture has been destroyed, but the least the city could do is remove it from public view. It is bolted down and could be repaired later. I do not understand why this art work and the other one on the same center divider was put Wher it was to begin with. Art in any form should be placed whee people can view it and appreciate the hard work it took to create it. Neither of these pieces were placed in a proper place, and the lighting was totally inadequate. People driving by at 45 mph could never look at it. Why don't they move both of the down to the marina area so people can appreciate it in a safe place? David Casey. -pacratflt
