Local Health Club Makes Healthy Donation To School

In-Shape Health Club donates fitness equipment to Fairfield-Suisun Public Safety Academy.

In-Shape Health Clubs recently donated $14,000 in fitness equipment to the . The equipment, donated to the school on Wednesday, will assist students at the school who are training for a career in public safety in physical training.

"We’re investing millions of dollars into our 2 new Fairfield clubs, and we’re pleased that we can invest in the community, as well,” said Executive Vice President Rob Farrens in a press release. “Partnering with this organization to help them build a fitness program is the perfect place for our gently-used equipment to be.”

In-Shape donated about a dozen pieces of fitness equipment, in all. The equipment, all cardio machines, was a part of the surplus of equipment from when the club bought the Solano Athletic Club.

“It was treadmills and steppers,” said Kaci Barnes, spokesperson.

In-Shape Health Club, who opened in November of last year, has been around since 1981. Voted one of the best 20 clubs in the nation, the club currently has 57 locations throughout California, including clubs in Vacaville, Vallejo and American Canyon. They recently purchased Fairfield’s Solano Athletic Clubs located on Dover Avenue and Holiday Lane.

“We try to be as connected as possible to all the communities that we open clubs in,” said Barnes. “We’ve opened quite a few clubs in Solano County but now that we are in Fairfield it just worked out kind of perfect timing that we were able to pair with a big community organization and offer them something that was no longer of use to us so we could create that relationship.”

The Fairfield-Suisun Public Safety Academy will be opening in August. The school will instruct student in grades fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth. As the time progresses, the school plans to house grades fifth to twelfth, allowing students currently in the eighth grade to graduate high school from the academy, poised for a career in public safety. The main purpose of the academy is to train children for what it takes for such careers in law enforcement, fire prevention, emergency response, and related professions.
