“Get the Rush” at Rush Ranch

All are invited to “Get the Rush” this Saturday, June 18, from 9am to 1pm.  “Get the Rush” is a series of fun and free activities at Rush Ranch, just outside Suisun City.

Starting at 9am, enjoy an easy and informative guided walk along the marsh trails.  Learn about the marsh and local human history. Meet your guide at the map outside the Nature Center.

Between 10am to 1pm, travel back in time as you enter the historic Rush Ranch Blacksmith Shop. Join in an interactive demonstration with a smithy. Learn about traditional blacksmithing tools and equipment, and see the forge in the center of the ranch. Make your own iron nail or other keepsake!

Also from 10am to 1pm, visit Little Bear at his table full of Native American tools and decorations that he hand-crafted himself. Ask him about his life experiences and the history and culture of Native Americans.

From 11 am to 1pm, all are welcome to ride around the ranch on a wagon drawn by strong but gentle horses. The wagon is specially designed for persons with limited mobility, including a solar powered wheelchair lift. These wagon rides allow those with limited mobility to experience the freedom and excitement of exploring beautiful open spaces like Rush Ranch, with highly trained horses and experienced drivers.

Rush Ranch is owned and operated by Solano Land Trust, and “Get the Rush” is made possible by the volunteers of the Rush Ranch Educational Council and Access Adventure.  “Get the Rush” takes place on the third Saturday of every month.

Rush Ranch stretches across 2,000 acres of marsh and rolling grassland on the northeast edge of the Suisun Marsh. It is nationally recognized as one of the best remaining examples of a brackish tidal marsh in the entire United States.

Rush Ranch admission and parking is free.  Water, snacks, and bug repellent are recommended. Guests should be prepared for variable weather by bringing layered clothes and protection from sun, wind, fog, and the chance of rain.  Reservations are not necessary.  For more information visit www.SolanoLandTrust.org, call 707-432-0150 x200, or email volunteer@SolanoLandTrust.org
