Wildflower watchers can once again ride vintage trains at the Western Railway Museum. In April, the Museum will use its historic electric railway equipment on the new "Vintage Comet."
The "Vintage Comet" departs each Saturday in April at 5pm to take advantage of the beautiful late-afternoon light. Adult passengers 21 and older will learn about and sample local wine provided by the Suisun Valley Wine Co-Op. Each Saturday will feature wine from a different Co-Op member. Juice is available for younger passengers.
The Museum held a contest in early February to help name the new train. The name "Vintage Comet" was chosen from over 50 suggestions because of its multiple references to wine, to history, and to honor an actual Sacramento Northern train name, "The Comet," which ran from Oakland to Sacramento over the tracks the Museum now owns and operates.
The Western Railway Museum is located on the freshly rehabilitated California State Highway 12 in rural Solano County, midway between Interstate 80 in Fairfield and the Sacramento Delta town of Rio Vista. The Museum is just one hour from San Francisco, Sacramento, Stockton, and Sonoma.
