The Indians used pressure defense and speed to run the visitors out of their gym.

"We never played a team like that," Merced guard Brittany Scott said in the Merced Sun Star newspaper. "It was hard to get open."

Armijo blew the game open early. It trailed 15-14, then went on a 19-1 outburst to lead 34-15.  Gaines hit four 3-point shots as she joined Dawkins to score 18 of the Indians second-quarter points.

"They got hot from outside and that's what we were afraid of," said Merced head coach Brad Reed of the Indians in the Sun Star.

Monticello Empire League Most Valuable Player Marshanique Hall led the Indians with 14 points.
