Sonoma NASCAR Sprint Cup Race Results

Jeff Gordon takes second place at his home track in Sunday's NASCAR race.

Jeff Gordon has more NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victories at Sonoma Raceway than any other driver, so he came to his home track looking for a big finish Sunday.

The Vallejo native wasn't sipping wine in the Winner's Circle after the Toyota/Save Mart 350, but a second-place finish still had him celebrating.

"It was extremely exciting for us. …," Gordon said. "There (were) a bunch of wrecks that happened right in front of me that I was able to avoid, and we just had a really good race car and were able to drive up through. That part was a lot of fun."

Martin Truex Jr. won handily to snap a winless streak of 218 races dating to June 4, 2007 at Dover, Del. Truex beat Gordon by 8.133 seconds.

"We've been close a lot and it feels damn good to get one finally," Truex said.

Carl Edwards finished where he started in third place after 110 laps on the 1.99-mile course.

Truex's team owner took home the champion's wine goblet for the second year in a row. Teammate Clint Bowyer, who won in Sonoma in 2012, finished fifth Sunday.

Juan Pablo Montoya, who was running second with two laps left, fell to 34th at the finish after running out of fuel. His car barely crossed the finish line.
