Favela's Fundraiser to Benefit Family of Slain CHP Officer Kenyon Youngstrom

Anyone who eats at Favela's Mexican Grill next Tuesday or Wednesday, Sept. 25-26, will be donating to the cause.

Editor's note: This fundraiser has been cancelled.

California Highway Patrol Officer Kenyon Youngstrom lost his life serving the community, now the community wants to do something for him.

Favela's Mexican Grill owner Veronica Favela is doing something to give back to the family of Youngstrom. Anyone who eats at any of Favela’s locations on North Texas Street and Oliver Road on Tuesday Sept. 25, or Wednesday, Sept. 26, will help Favela raise funds for the family of Youngstrom, who leaves behind four children.

“We know it’s a really tough time and we decided that we would give back, any way we could help, we want to be part of it,” Favela said.

Favela said 20 percent of all sales during the two-day fundraiser would be donated to the family of Youngstrom.

“We want them to make sure it goes straight to them so they can use it any way they can,” she said.

On Sept. 4, Youngstrom, 37, and his partner, Tyler Carlton, pulled over Christopher Lacy, 36, of Corning, along Interstate 680 in Alamo, when Lacy open fired and shot Youngstrom.

Youngstrom’s partner shot and killed Lacy, Youngstrom was taken to a nearby hospital with critical injuries. The seven-year veteran of the CHP later succumbed to his wounds.

A funeral service was held for Youngstrom in Vacaville, drawing law enforcement officials from throughout the region and as far away as Reno.

The California Highway Patrol has established a memorial fund to support Youngstrom's family. A memorial fund has been set up through Wells Fargo, and donations to the Officer Kenyon Youngstrom Memorial can be made at any Wells Fargo branch according to the CHP.
