How Good Are Your Chocolate Chip Cookies?

Calling all master chocolate chip cookie bakers!

Ever wondered how good your chocolate chip cookies really taste?

Contestants will get a chance to find out when they are judged by the panel of professional chefs just selected for the First Annual Chocolate Dessert Bake-Off to be held at the Suisun Art Wine and Chocolate Festival on Saturday, October 6, 2012.

The Fairfield-Suisun Rotary Club, sponsors of the Bake-Off, has announced that Darin Hamner and Judy Dhuyvetter have volunteered to judge the entries.

Darin Hamner , Food and Beverage Manager at Green Valley Country Club, was classically trained in New York City and has worked in major corporate restaurants  from the east coast to Seattle.

Judy Dhuyvetter, Bakery manager at Raley’s on North Texas, brings a wealth of experience including over 12 years working in a variety of baking and cake decorating capacities.

There are seven categories to enter:

  • Chocolate cookies
  • Chocolate pies or puddings
  • Chocolate cakes
  • Chocolate candy
  • Chocolate sculpture or artwork
  • Children (ages 6-12) - all categories
  • Youth (ages 13-18) - all categories

Proceeds from the Bake-Off will benefit the Rotary International project to end polio worldwide.

Contestants for the Bake-Off should bring their entries before the Festival from 9 AM to 11 AM.  Judging will be at 11:30 and winners announced by KUIC at the Harbor Plaza Stage at 1:30 pm.  Entries need to be picked up between 12:30 and 1:30  pm or they will be discarded.  Full contest rules and applications are available on line at www.visitsuisuncity.com/event/art-wine-chocolate-festival.

The Festival will run from 11-5 pm on Saturday.  Visitors to the Suisun City Waterfront will be able to sample dozens of the top wines from the award-winning Suisun Valley appellation & other Solano County wineries coupled with fine chocolate candy, cupcakes, fudge and other chocolate culinary delicacies. In addition, more than 70 artisans will be displaying hand-crafted items and selling  their art creations.
