Mission Solano To Gift Sculpture

Artist who makes sculptures out of trash to donate artwork to the city.

As part of Mission Solano's , volunteers scoured the city for rubbish to give to Vacaville artist Gilbert Rangel, who has turned it into a seven-foot tall sculpture that he will donate to the city tonight at 7 p.m. in the council chambers.

I have seen the scultpure, but in the interest of surprise, I have been sworn to secrecy.

What I can show you is what Gilbert had to start with and some of his past creations look like.

Public Welcome to Experience Recycled Art with Suisun City Leaders

Mission SOLANO, along with the help of over 100 local volunteers, cleaned up 400 pounds of garbage on Earth Day, April 21st in Suisun City.  Tonight they will celebrate a unique piece of art, created from the recyclable materials and donated from it’s artist for Suisun City’s enjoyment.

When Mission SOLANO was in the beginning stages of planning for Earth Day at the gorgeous downtown waterfront in Suisun City, a profound vision came through:

You allowed us to clean up your discarded, thrown away, trampled-on refuse; we recycled it are now giving you a piece of art, more beautiful than you can imagination.

When you stop to think about an artist creating something beautiful out of trash others have thrown away, you may see the connection to Mission SOLANO's vision for discarded people.

For those of you who have been involved with Mission SOLANO, and have had the opportunity to see the restoration of our guests up close and in person, you know that is our core purpose.  This art project is a tangible expression of the Mission SOLANO vision:

To provide an economic and spiritual bridge for people striving to regain the basic necessities of life in order to restore hope in themselves and their future while achieving economic stability so that they are able to rejoin their community as full and active participants.

Gilbert Rangel, the talented recycled materials artist from Vacaville, shares that vision as well.  He looks at a piece of refuse, maybe a used toothbrush or a bottle cap, and sees its beauty.  Just like Mission SOLANO does with its beloved people.

You are invited to join us at the Suisun City Chambers, 701 Civic Center Blvd, Suisun City at 7:00 pm this Tuesday, May 22nd, for Gilbert's presentation of his Earth Day recycled art creation to the city as a donation on behalf of one the largest recyclers in Solano County: MISSION SOLANO.
