Salvation Army To Hold BBQ For Suisun City March 19

Come grab lunch and let your kids run around at the Salvation Army parking lot

The Salvation Army is set to hold a March 19 BBQ to celebrate the beginning of construction for the Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center at 586 E. Wigeon Way, and Suisun City residents are invited.

“We’re getting very, very close to seeing dirt being moved, so we thought we’d have a party and get to know the neighbors,” said Salvation Army Capt. Jonathan Harvey.

The Salvation Army will also have a bounce house for kids at the BBQ lunch, a contest to guess how many mini basketballs can fill a Ford Flex — donated by Ford of Fairfield — as well as information on the upcoming center. The party is from noon – 2 p.m. that Saturday.

“The construction party will be an opportunity for the community to come together and learn more about this center and what it will be offering them,” Harvey said in a press release.

Once finished, the $22 million center will have a full aquatic center, community rooms, cardio and weight machines, plus banquet and party facilities, a rock climbing wall, group fitness areas, a performing arts center and a chapel.

Harvey said Tuesday that the Salvation Army will be opening a visitor’s center in Suisun City shortly, where they will tell people about membership rates, employment opportunities and show off drawings of what the completed center will look like.

Harvey said final rates for memberships haven’t been figured out yet, but adult memberships will be less than $30 per month.
