The California Carnival Is Back in Suisun

If you've been driving down Highway 12 past the 30-acre parcel across from ARCO, you've seen the Ferris Wheel and other carnival pieces built this week.

Now you might be interested in going to the California Carnival just off Highway 12 at Marina Boulevard.

The carnival will be open today until Monday. Today it opened at 4 p.m. and will close at 10 p.m. Saturday it will open at 12:00 p.m. to 10:00, and from 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday. On Monday it will open at 2 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Admission is free, but to ride the rides you need to buy tickets. An average ride costs four tickets, though rides take anywhere from three to six tickets. Ticket prices are $20 for 25 tickets, $40 for 60 tickets. Those who purchase advance tickets will be able to get unlimite ride wristbands.

The Carnival returned to the 30-acre parcel across from ARCO this year, where before 2010 it had been at the lot south of the post office.

Suisun City Kiwanis Club members helped bring the carnival to Suisun City, and the proceeds from the carnival will go to Susiun American Little League.

Kiwanis member and Suisun City Councilman Mike Segala said the carnival brought in $8,000 in proceeds last year. The league is trying to raise money for a new scoreboard, among other things.

Security is not a concern at the California Carnival, where uniformed and plainclothes guards will keep the peace and workers there have to undergo background checks for working with children.

"One the things I enjoy most about the carnival is the corndogs and cotton candy," Segala said.
